Final Weekly Update for 4th Grade

Next week I will be traveling with the 5th grade students to Lakeshore Camp located in Eva, TN.
Mrs. Ayers (Mr. Stearnes' student teacher) will be filling in for me until I return on Friday, May 23 for our final day of school and awards assembly. Check out their website at

Dear Parents,

Friday, May 23rd I shall give you back your child. The same child you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, and months wiser than they were then.

Although they would have attained their growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personality unfold day by day and marvel at this miracle of development.

I give them back a bit reluctantly. Having spent ten months together in the narrow confines of Campus School, we have grown close and we shall always retain a little of each other. We have lived, celebrated, TCAP tested, laughed, learned, and enriched our lives together this year.

Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and their future endeavors, wherever they go, whatever they do, whoever they become. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be your child’s teacher this year

Respectfully,

Mr. Shadow

James and the Giant Peach, End of the Year Field Trip, and TCAP Celebration Day

 Dear Parents,

Next week we will begin our final class novel! Roald Dahl has written entertaining children's stories that contain morals and life lessons that even adults can appreciate. In James and the Giant Peach, he handles the themes of abandonment, abuse, and redemptive reward--with justice meted out appropriately to all concerned. Below is a review of this classic book.

When James accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house. When James discovers a secret entrance way into the fruit and crawls inside, he meets wonderful new friends--the Old-Green-Grasshopper, the dainty Ladybug, and the Centipede of the multiple boots. After years of feeling like an outsider in his aunts' house, James finally found a place where he belongs. With a snip of the stem, the peach household starts rolling away--and the adventure begins!
Roald Dahl's first and most widely celebrated book for young people continues to thrill readers around the world.
"This is a stunning book to be cherished for its story, a superb fantasy."--Chicago Tribune
"A beautifully written, fantastic book."--Christian Science Monitor

TCAP Pajama and movie party  First of all, I hope that you are all enjoying your week. With all the hard work the kiddos have been doing with TCAP, I contend they should definitely be rewarded! To celebrate the students' success, the entire third and fourth grade will have our annual "Sleepover in the Classroom" Monday, May 5th. I do apologize for the late notice on this, but we had to move the celebration up due to 1st and 2nd grade testing. I am sure the students will have no problem celebrating earlier than expected. :) The students are allowed to wear their pajamas to school as well as bring in their sleeping bags, pillow, and stuffed animal of their choice. Please visit http://aarenm.wikispaces.com/PAJAMA+PARTY to sign up for drinks, popcorn, and sweet treats. Be sure the sign up for the correct class as all three classes are posted on wiki page.
